影片以1960年代初的紐約音樂(lè)界為背景，重現(xiàn)了鮑勃·迪倫插電爭(zhēng)議的始末。
19歲的鮑勃·迪倫（提莫西·查拉梅 Timothée Chalamet 飾）背著吉他，從明尼蘇達(dá)來(lái)到紐約西村，他的民謠歌曲得到了偶像的賞識(shí)和樂(lè)迷的青睞，原本寂寂無(wú)名的鮑勃迅速成為紐約民謠界炙手可熱的新星。1965年的紐波特民謠音樂(lè)節(jié)上，鮑勃·迪倫首次在舞臺(tái)上使用了電吉他，不僅顛覆了民謠音樂(lè)的定義，更重新書(shū)寫(xiě)了美國(guó)音樂(lè)的未來(lái)。
